I was walking around one of bog-box discount stores the other day and decided to pop into the pet aisle. What I saw was a little shocking.
50 pound bags of dog food for $19.99.
A 5 pound bag of dog biscuits for $4.99.
First thing I did was look at the ingredient labels on these items then shook my head in disbelief. Real meat proteins were nowhere to be found, but there were plenty of fillers like rice and flour.
I’m amazed that people would actually feed their dog this super-low quality dog food and dog treat. But apparently they do, otherwise the stores wouldn’t be selling them.
Dogs are carnivores and carnivores require meat in their diet. Meat can be in the form of by-products found in pet foods or in raw form. When choosing a dog food for your pet, always look at the ingredient list. A form of meat protein should be one of the first three ingredients. If you see things like corn, meal, rice or wheat as one of the first three ingredients before a protein, stay away.
Your dog is a member of your family. You wouldn’t feed your children a low quality food, so why feed your dog one?
