February is Dog Dental Awareness Month

Who says February is all about Cupid, Valentines and love?

February is also Dog Dental Awareness Month and if you’ve gotten a sloppy kiss from your dog and had a whiff of doggy breath, you don’t need February to remind you of the importance of proper dental care.

Doggy breath is the first sign that something is amiss in your dog’s mouth.  Take a good look at your pup’s teeth.  If they’re not pearly white and have a buildup of plaque then you need to do something about it.

For younger dogs, regular dental care should be part of their normal vet checkup schedule.  Many times, the buildup of plaque and scale can be removed by your vet annually.  Older dogs who have not had proper dental care over the years may have to be put under to have their teeth cleaned, or your vet may say it can’t be done because of age.

In either case, brushing your dog’s teeth, giving them treats that stimulate chewing and providing them with toys that stimulate the gums and remove plaque should be something you do on a continual basis.

Our friends over at dog.com are offering our readers 20% off dog dental items for the month of February.  What a deal!
